The ego is "self-centered." It makes us focus on ourselves and it also makes us feel separate from others. It's the part of our mind that thinks we need to compete and protect ourselves.
1. The Son of God is egoless.
Our true selves and our inner goodness are not affected by the ego's negative qualities. We are at our best when we are kind, loving, and not selfish.
2. What can he know of madness and the death of God, when he abides in Him?
When we are connected to our inner goodness, we don't understand crazy thoughts or believe that God is gone. Our inner goodness keeps us from feeling confused and thinking that God doesn't exist.
3. What can he know of sorrow and suffering when he lives in eternal joy?
When we are connected to our inner goodness, we can't feel deep sadness or suffering because we are always happy. Our happiness protects us from feeling very sad. Two things cannot occupy the same space at the same time.
4. What can he know of fear and punishment when all there is surrounds him is everlasting peace?
When we are connected to our inner goodness, we can't feel afraid, punished, or guilty because we are always peaceful. We're surrounded by a feeling of calm and love that keeps away negative feelings.
