What led you to start using AI when other people have not yet used it at all?

I've written a couple of lists about AI here and here but this list tries to address the why.

1. Curiosity

What is it, what can it do, do I understand how to use it?

I'm in the very early stages of learning. For now it just seems like a robust search engine and I got it to write a blog post which leads me to think I don't really get it yet.

2. Day job implication number 1

One the list lists I linked to above was about whether it will affect our jobs. I mixed in a few specifics about how it might impact my work.

3. Day job implication number 2

If any clients ask about it I want to be able to truthfully say I checked it out and am trying learn more.

4. I'm usually kind of early to try new tech (other than gadgets)

This might tie in with number 1 on this list but I like to learn about new things like this to filter whether it can help in any way or be fun or in some other way add value. We've all done this with NotePD.

5. Is this really as big as they say?

The internet and the smart phone changed the way we do everything. Some think AI will be just as big, maybe bigger. I don't know if that is correct but I don't want to be left too far behind if that turns out to be correct.

6. Lessons from the internet bubble

The actual internet exceeded the hype from 25 years ago but very few of the first generation of stocks in the space survived. That is probably worth remembering as the AI stock mania starts to build up. Not that you shouldn't invest, that is up to you, but if you do invest, you size it in such a way that being wrong doesn't hurt you financially.
