Workout Types To Pursue Post-Triathlon
I have my first triathlon (sprint distance) in 3 years this Sunday. Most of my exercise efforts have been about building capacity to finish the race. After that, what next?
1. Swim
I don't wan to lose what I've gained, in fact, I'd like to go longer next season.
2. Bike
Ditto
3. Run
Ditto
4. StrongLifts 5x5
A strength program that focuses on 5 fundamental lifts: bench press, deadlift, squat, barbell row and shoulder press.
5. Animal/Primal Movement
A fitness movement that encourages strength and proprioception through movements that look like our primal ancestors and/or animals (quadrupedal movement, for example)
6. Yoga
Stretch
7. Mobility
Keeping joints moving
8. Bodyweight/Calisthenics
9. Suspension/TRX
10. Heavy Bag
I own one and some boxing wraps/gloves. Might as well use them.
11. Rock Climbing
12. SUP/Kayak (Conditioning?)
There are multisport races in the area that add these sports to other endurance sports like running and mountain biking. I don't have access to a stand-up paddleboard or kayak at the moment, but if I want to participate in one of those races, I'll need to get my body ready. Maybe there are dry-land programs?
