Girls are hard! Harder than boys. I didn't know such a thing to be the case until she turned about 9 (going on 25)! I have a twentysomething son but he was NEVER a challenge to relate to.

    1. Love her like she likes to be loved

It is very hard for me to hold back affection as I was raised in an affectionate family but my daughter doesn't like overt displays of affection (I think she has a bit of ADHD or is on the edge of a neurodiverse disorder ~ if I used that incorrectly someone please let me know in the comments). But through effective counseling I have come to see that I should not take this personally. Rather, I should allow her to define the hugs and kisses. And when I am smart and do not pressure her or push myself on her, she invariably comes to me wanting affection. It sounds creepy upon a second reading but I am being sincere about the relationship and nothing weird.

I am averse to yard work. I just feel like it is a waste of time and something that should not be a social more if I choose not to pursue it. However, Homeowners Association rules require it. But more importantly, my wife requires it (to be honest she would gladly do it herself but I'm retired and embarrassed to have her do that instead of me). And I have plenty of time so I don't want to hire it done.

    1. Wear work-appropriate gear!

Wear sunglasses, a hat, and gloves. Also, possibly, a bandanna to catch sweat. Sometimes I feel pretentious if my neighbors see me wearing gloves while mowing or weedeating but I've pinched my fingers enough times to know that gloves are effective in preventing minor damage caused by my reckless-yardwork attitude. I guess it is silly to care what they think but if I didn't have neighbors I wouldn't be mowing in the first place. Well, my wife would probably make me . . . .

Sometimes I forget to put on all of this gear prior but when I realize that I'm working without some item of protection I stop and go get it.

I mentioned the bandana as an afterthought but many people have allergies and a bandana doesn't restrict my airflow as much as a mask if I decide to pull it up over my nose and mouth. Plus, it makes me look gangster!

In my opinion . . .

    1. . . . phones will be embedded in our heads.

. . . phones will be small microchips imbedded in one's skull. Perhaps a series of eye blinks will take you to the dialer or a combination of spoken words will bring up your photo gallery. The storage capacity & computing power of this device will be staggering versus today's largest and fastest.

There are many but I'll list three:

    1. Seeming Sincere

    0

When people tell me a lengthy story I tend to fade out and lose track of what they are saying. For some reason I have just enough mental acuity to pay enough attention that I can repeat facts back to them but most people only want you to listen to their stories and not interject. I'm extremely good at that though I don't really enjoy listening or pretending empathy. This was very effective in my customer service job.
