10 annoyances at sloppy skilled work

Drywall work

    1. I hired somebody to do a job because I didn’t feel like it, and I ended up having to redo it

    2. I’m glad I have developed drywall skills over the years, but I am at a point in my life where I’d rather not do it anymore

    3. By the time the job is finished if it’s not done well, many times it needs to be done over but probably not by the person that did a bad job

    4. The franchise that we hired sent two guys. One was good. The other one was not.

    5. The price quote for a painting was outrageously high. So my wife decided to save money by having me do it.

six hours of complaining and three hours of actually working, I finished.

    6. Even after I told the guy to remove the lamp from the ceiling when he finished, he said oh I didn’t have to. Today, I removed the lamp and patched the drywall myself.

    7. Being disappointed with other people‘s work has pushed me to pick up a lot of skills

    8. There’s probably a good business opportunity to be able to reliably handle all household problems with one phone call

a company in my area that is working in this direction. They are high price but a one stop shop.

    9. Coordinating trades for small jobs is tedious and expensive

    10. Over regulation forced the skilled generalist “handyman “ out of work

There should probably be some kind of middle ground. To become a master electrician takes decades and you certainly don’t want your house burned down, but you could probably go to school for a week and figure out how to do basic outlet replacement and stuff like that.
