10 benefits to writing lists every day

I write a version of this list every so often. As I do this longer I get more out of the practice

    1. Create a habit of thinking every day

Spending a few minutes thinking for the sake of thinking is a great practice.

    2. The process of developing a habit helps you develop other habits

Habit creation is a skill that you can improve

    3. Build a track record for yourself of being a finisher

By writing a list for a few minutes and developing a streak you can train yourself to be a finisher in other parts of your life.

    4. Learn things about yourself

The sixth through tenth items of most lists cause you to go to the next level of thinking.

    5. Practice expressing yourself: improve your writing

    6. Become more observant

You will ask yourself whether you can make a list of a particular topic

    7. Become more curious

What are 10 things that I could learn about X? If you commit to writing every day, you will have to find 365 things a year to write about so you need to start collecting topics for ideas.

    8. You can explore a topic over time

Write a list of the same topics every few months and compare them.

    9. Increase your "idea mulch"

By thinking and writing many ideas over time, you will create fertile idea soil that will help you connect ideas that you already have and create new things.

    10. Become more creative, grow your idea muscle

I can easily and quickly generate two or three ideas on almost any topic. Because I consciously practice getting to 10 ideas, it really becomes a muscle, as James says.
