I heard they've been fighting with Kyrgyzstan recently (and that they've been clashing for a while?). Who knows what that's about. Land dispute, I assume? Kind of like between Armenia and Azerbaijan? If anybody knows, feel free to let me know.

Yes, land dispute is the official reason for the conflict between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. In reality, Putin has a strong hold over Tajikistan; so whenever Kyrgyzstan steps out of line (more recently signing deals with China that Putin opposed), Tajikistan is used to remind them.

Kyrgyzstan also has resources (mainly water and natural gas) that surrounding countries do not have. It is forced to supply everyone almost for free. Otherwise, they find an excuse to attack and take what they need by force.
