I’ve been going to the cinema a lot lately.

Preview

    1. Girlfriends (1978)

A brilliant independent film by Claudia Weill about female friendship, and what it means to be a woman with artistic aspirations.

    2. The Virgin Suicides (1999)

I saw it for the first time when I was 11, and it had a big impact on me. It’s recently been restored, and it was great to be able to see it in a theatre. It’s one of the best depictions of adolescent angst, visually striking, with a great soundtrack.

    3. Asteroid City (2023)

I’m not actually a Wes Anderson fan, but this one was slightly better than his previous one.

    4. Thelma & Louise (1990)

The only good Ridley Scott movie in my opinion (controversial, I know).

    5. Three Colours: White (1994)

I absolutely love the Three Colours Trilogy. White was the only one I hadn’t seen, and it was the most interesting one in terms of tone (less dramatic than the others), and story. Just brilliant.

    6. Barbie (2023)

No comment. I might write a post about it.

    7. Le Départ (1967)

    A fun, underrated new-wave film.

    8. Meet Me in the Bathroom (2022)

A documentary about NYC’s indie rock scene in the early noughties. I like the bands, so it was worthwhile. I also liked the aesthetic.

    9. Pierrot le Fou (1965)

Probably my favourite Godard. Quite experimental in style, powerful, and very poetic.

    10. Aftersun (2022)

Overrated, in a style over substance kind of way. It didn’t move me at all, and none of the characters were particularly interesting.
