10 Ideas, Opinions, or Beliefs You Have Changed Your Mind About Over The Past 10 Years

“If you can change your mind, you can change your life.” - William James.

    1. Getting Married

I was not sure if I was a “marriage material.”

    2. People changing after a certain age

I always thought that people couldn’t change after a certain age, even if they wanted to. I was wrong. With the right trigger or motivation, people do change.

    3. I thought meditation is a waste of time

Now I swear by it. It has upgraded my life in many ways—one of the foundational habits that positively impacts other spheres of life.

    4. Owning over leasing or subscribing

I always thought that accumulating assets was a good thing, whether it was a software license, a car, or a snowboard, although I only hit the slops couple of times a year.
I changed my mind. Except for a few items, such as a house and clothes, I will if I can rent or subscribe.

    Airbnb doesn’t own any property.
The lighter the balance sheet, the better.

    5. You need to be selfish and aggressive to be promoted

Although this may still be true in some organizations or companies, the world has changed a lot. You can now be kind and get rich. It has never been easier to be an entrepreneur.
I am still testing this. I might need to gather more data.

    6. Everything is a zero sum game

I used to have a scarcity mindset; only a few get promoted, or only a few get hired. I was navigating a narrow path. This has changed as I started seeing abundance everywhere. Most things are not zero-sum when we zoom out.

    7. Complicated over simple

I always thought complicated is sexy. Not anymore, complicated is taxing, is not sexy.
“Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that’s creativity.” — Charles Mingus

    8. Life is binary; either black or white

Life is anything but binary. Life is many shades of gray. We simply need to be able to discern between the shades.

    9. Asking for help is a sign of weakness

Now I believe that the bigger the dream, the more important the team. Asking for and offering help is part of growing.

    10. Audio books

Before I would not even entertain the thought of me listening to audiobooks, I changed my mind. I am getting used to it. I still prefer physical books.
