10 ideas to incorporate into Starfinder Role Playing Game 2.0
Not quite a fair list because I don't have access to ALL the material that has been released but...
1. As a longtime fan of the game, I've had plenty of time to ponder over what could make this next edition even more immersive and thrilling. So, without further ado, let's dive into these ideas
2. Expanded Starship Combat
Starship combat is one of the highlights of Starfinder, but let's take it to the next level. Imagine dynamic environments, more tactical options, and a wider variety of starship weapons and customization. It would add a whole new layer of excitement to our interstellar battles.
3. Deep Dive into Alien Cultures
Starfinder is all about exploring the vastness of space and encountering strange and fascinating alien species. Let's delve deeper into the cultures, traditions, and societies of these aliens. It would provide endless opportunities for role-playing and world-building.
4. Epic Campaigns
Starfinder already offers epic adventures, but let's crank up the intensity. Give us more high-stakes campaigns with dire consequences and unforgettable moments. Let's challenge our heroes like never before and make them feel like true legends of the cosmos. Several pre-published adventures that combine to form one galaxy spanning arc would be one way to go.
5. Expanded Exploration
Exploration is a core aspect of Starfinder, so let's expand on it. Introduce new planets, star systems, and uncharted territories for us to discover. Add more exploration-based mechanics and rewards to make each journey feel truly epic and allow Game Masters to more easily create worlds, races, and cultures of their own.
6. Faction System
Imagine a robust faction system where players can align themselves with different organizations in the Starfinder universe. Earn reputation, unlock unique quests, and make impactful choices that shape the fate of these factions. It would add a whole new layer of depth to the game. The foundation of this already exists. Let's really flesh it out for 2.0
7. Interplanetary Trade and Economics
Bring the economy of the Starfinder universe to life. Introduce a system where players can engage in interplanetary trade, establish businesses, and even shape the economic landscape of the cosmos. It would add a strategic element to the game and offer new avenues for character progression. I've seen more than one home brew where PCs have become traders in an effort to raise enough credits to purchase their own starship.
8. Expanded Starfinder Society
The Starfinder Society is already a beloved part of the game, but let's expand on it. Introduce more factions within the Society, each with their own goals and agendas. This would create more diverse storylines and opportunities for players to get involved.
9. Advanced Alien Companions
We already have the option to have animal companions, but how about advanced alien companions? Let players form bonds with intelligent extraterrestrial beings who can assist them in their adventures. It would add depth to character relationships and open up new gameplay possibilities.
10. Player-Driven Storytelling
Finally, let's empower the players to shape the story. Give us tools and mechanics to create our own adventures, share them with the community, and build our own corner of the Starfinder universe. This would foster a vibrant and ever-expanding community of storytellers. An easy example of this more random encounter tables for GMs. NPCs, settings, treasure, etc. This allows for less railroading and allows the GM to say YES more often when the players unexpectedly turn left at Alburquerque.
And there you have it, my fellow Starfinders! These are just a few ideas that I believe would take the Starfinder Role Playing Game to new heights. I hope you found them as exciting as I do. Let's keep our fingers crossed and see what the future holds for our favorite sci-fi RPG. Until then, may the stars guide your path!
