10 reasons Italian coffee is best

What's best than a shot of espresso? Other countries have strong coffee culture: from the highly caffeinated Scandi concoctions, to the delicate flavours of Saudi cardamom coffee.
But there's only one coffee that brews together taste, style, price, and get-together: espresso!

    1. It tastes really good

In just one ounce the brewing process assembles a world of scents and textures, in three parts: tiny oil droplets that gives the intense scent; fine suspended solids carrying the body; and a thin layer of foam to finish with a creamy touch.

    2. It's quick

A shot of espresso takes about 2 minutes from start to finish.
You don't need to seat down in a noisy place full of people - unless you want to!

    3. It's cheap

One cup of espresso in Milan costs about 1 Euro. Making it at home it's even less.
Coffee doesn't need to be a $4 pint of codswallop.

    4. It boosts energy and mood

A shot of espresso is like a ray of sunlight shining behind stormy clouds.

    5. It keeps me healthy

Coffee has proven benefits in reducing the risk of diabetes and strokes.
Unless you had already a heart stroke, of course.

    6. It sharpens my mind

Coffee increases attention and improves long-term memory.
Paul Erdos said "a mathematician is a device for turning coffee into theorems".
I though about the same about writing software. I found out that a developer is a device for turning coffee into bugs.

    7. It makes us look great

Get into a coffee place in Milan.
Look at the people in their well-coordinated suits. Look how elegant and easy-going they can be at the same time.
Can you do the same while holding a giant venti pumpkin spice latte?

    8. It's a social moment

Start the day with a cup of coffee with your family.
Meet your team for a cup of coffee before starting the working day.
See your friends for a coffee in the afternoon.

    9. It's easy to brew

I don't really drink espresso, I use a stove-top moka that makes great coffee in less than 5 minutes.
Coffee in England is a sad act, so when I'm in town I bring my home-made coffee in a small thermal flask.

    10. It's better than meditating

Making coffee and drinking it is a transcendent experience.
Certainly one of the first things I love to do in the morning.
