10 Reasons Why I Started Waking Up At 3:00 AM
I started this practice today. I've done it before, but it's been quite a while.
1. I am starting to run more.
I am physically healthy for the first time in nearly a year, so I anticipate putting in more running time. In the sweltering Arizona heat, it helps to start a run before sunrise.
2. I want to invest more time into reading and writing in the morning.
These passions have fallen off for me in recent months and I want to re-incorporate writing into my daily routine. Having the extra time will allow for it.
3. Business is as busy as ever.
Once I'm done running and writing, it's time to get to work. I could use all the time I can get for that right now.
4. It makes me feel like I'm on top of the world.
There is something special about starting the day so early that makes me feel like I truly own everything in my world.
5. I'm a morning person anyway.
I've never been great at staying up late, so doing this is not such a big deal.
6. It gives me space.
When I have more time to get things done, it allows me more space to breathe, introspect, and be more deliberate with my thoughts and actions.
7. It helps me to not feel rushed.
If I tried to fit everything into my day by waking up one, two, or three hours later, it would never happen without feeling stressed and rushed all the time.
8. Experiencing the quiet of the early morning is unmatched.
There is something peaceful about sitting on the back patio with a cup of coffee and staring at the stars at 3:00 in the morning.
9. It provides a greater sense of motivation to get things done.
I might let some things slide when I wake up later, but with waking up at this witching hour, I feel like I can't - nor do I want to - let anything slide.
10. Why not?
Most people will ask the question, "Why would you ever want to wake up so early?" My response is, "Why not?"
Your response to my retort will say far more about you than it will about me.
