10 Steps to Making a Super Creative Book or Documentary
The idea is that anyone can be creative if they pick a big topic (real estate, crypto, money, romance, etc) and take it to an extreme.
1. PICK A BIG TOPIC: Example: Real estate.
2. DO SOMETHING EXTREME: Example: Live in the tiniest apartment in NYC for a year.
3. TAKE LOTS OF NOTES
Document every aspect of your experience living in the tiniest apartment in NYC. How do you cook for a date? What's the rent? Is it cold, hot? What are your neighbors like? How do you store clothes, take a bath, etc. What's the landlord like?4. PROCESS IS ART
Not only take notes but video. The video can be reused for: A) a documentary B) social media like tiktok youtube or instagra, etc C) if you write a book on the topic, the video footage can be used by news shows to popularize the book.
This is the process and don't forget that PROCESS IS ART5. EXPLORE OTHER EXTREMES
For instance, in this example I am using on Real Estate: what's the biggest apartment in NYC? What's the biggest house in the world? Can you interview the people who live there? What's the smallest and biggest places being Airbnb-ed? Can you stay there?
What about the peopel who live in tiny cubbies in Japan with just a bed? What about the tiny home movement? Or 3D Printing houses? Or people who live under the subway system in NYC? Document it all.6. FIND THE DEEPER MEANING
Perhaps if you live for a year in the tiniest apartment in NYC you realize you truly don't need so much. Show the arc of this over the year.7. EXPLORE OTHER BIG TOPICS THROUGH THIS LENS
What's your sex life like in the tiniest apartment? Can you throw dinner parties? Can you Airbnb it? What does working from home feel like? Etc. test uipdate8. BECOME THE SMALL HOUSE GUY
Can you stay in even smaller houses in other countries or cities? Do it.9. WHO ELSE IS DOING THIS? DOCUMENT IT
Is someone living in a treehouse? Is someone living luxuriously in just high-end hotels? How do homeless people survive if they never use a shelter. How do astronauts deal with their tiny living in space? Find every unusual housing situation and document it.10. BE VULNERABLE
Ultimately, did you enjoy this? What parts of the process were painful? When did you almost want to give up? How did your life change? Be vulnerable and honest.11. LIVE TO TELL THE TALE
At the end of the year, write the book, make the documentary, etc. In the arc of the hero, the hero defeats his greatest villain and comes back to tell the story. Be the hero.
