10 Telltale Signs You're Unconsciously Rushing Through Life And Not Really Living

Some years back, I read the book "Shoe Dog", which is the biography of Nike founder, Phil Knight.

Towards the end of the book, he was asked about his greatest regret over the years. To which he replied that his greatest regret was that he couldn't do it all over again... because he enjoyed every moment of it!

And this sadly reminds me of how most people are not living life:

They don't live their life enjoying every day and every moment.

On the contrary, their view is always focused on somewhere in the near or distant future, somewhere over the rainbow where blue birds fly. And they live a life they dislike in the hopes that they can someday reach a life-changing goal, so they can wish dull and dreary days goodbye.

For some, that day never comes.

For other, it comes. But when it comes:

They're happy... maybe for a couple of days... a couple of weeks... a couple of months...

... but then the emptiness creeps in, and... they look back on all the wasted years of youth in regret... and are forced to find something new to pursue that might one day give them more happiness.

A better way to live:

Enjoy the process, don't wait for the end result. Enjoy every day, every moment, every hour. And enjoy everything you do. And if you don't, then it's time to change what you're doing.

Here are 10 telltale signs that you're placing too much of your hopes on future outcomes, while the happiness of today and tomorrow is passing you by:

    1. You're waiting for retirement so you can finally start doing what you really want to be doing.

Don't do that. Start doing what you really want to do right now, and figure out a way to get paid for doing it.

    2. You're waiting to save up huge amounts of money so you can finally get that mansion you always dreamed of.

Don't try to jump from Level 1 to Level 10. Start by going from Level 1 to Level 2 first.

    3. You're waiting to save up huge amounts of money so you can finally travel the world and see things you've never seen before.

There's plenty of things you've never seen before right wherever you're living. Start there and build up.

    4. You're sacrificing sleep and rest just to make more money so you can retire or quit your job faster and do something else.

    5. You're always rushing from Point A to Point B, whether it's driving, speed walking, or even taking the subway, and you miss out on everything along the way.

    6. You're focused on writing and getting your book out there, and not on having fun and savoring every page you create.

    7. You create idea lists just for the sake of not breaking your streak, and you don't really have fun writing about most of the topics you write about.

    8. You workout just for the sake of getting healthy or getting some sort of physique, and you don't really enjoy the exercise you're doing.

I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I'm saying you can reach the same end goal while simultaneously find a workout or exercise or sport you truly enjoy. So why not?

    9. Most of your life is made up of necessary routine that you don't really enjoy doing, but you do it only because you have to.

    10. You can't regularly look back at the end of the day, and tell yourself, "Today was once again a great day!"
