This was a contest to write a movie treatment and a movie trailer that showed artificial intelligence and robotics in a positive light.
1. There are a lot of excellent entries.
2. The AI-generated images are very beautiful and/or photo-realistic, depending on what you want.
3. With patience, the technology is there to make a movie.
4. Human creativity is still a deciding factor. AI can be tremendously helpful and expand your vision, but ultimately the human needs to keep control of the story for now.
5. Google included the ability to create videos inside Google Docs, which was the way I did mine. It is an incredible editor and fast, and hardly anybody knows about it.
6. So many things seem like they would be easy until you try it. Writing a movie story that is remotely interesting is difficult.
7. Each stage of the process informs the rest of the process. Making a trailer tells you that certain ideas that you thought were good in your treatment probably won't work.
8. Having a submission deadline of today made sure that I actually finished it, even though it took me all day.
9. Learn by doing. This is a relatively new thing for me to really follow. I used to read instructions for years, and now I just do it. I learn way more this way.
10. This is a prize to get a movie made, and a lot of people that entered it want to become movie makers. That's not that important to me, but I know that I could finish the movie on my own using AI tools if I felt like it.
