10 Things I Remembered and Forgot to Do Everyday

And how I repair my system every time it smashed into the rocks of a dynamic life.

10 Things I Remembered and Forgot to Do Everyday
Preview

    1. Physical Activity (Remembered, sometimes)

Mostly good, but a little bit of a lull in the late winter going into early spring here. One vacation and a few work trips later and my schedule got a little busted up. Sure, I did workouts without my usual equipment - that was okay - but the routine suffered.

Also, I love to get 10K steps a day. There's 3+ feet of snow on the ground. Not an ideal match.

    2. Meditate (forgot)

At one point I got quite a bit out of meditation. It was a nice piece of discipline and forced me to activate parts of my brain I hadn't used in maybe ever. Now that my mindset has changed significantly, I don't meditate at all. It probably ran its course and was useful for what it was.

    3. 10 Ideas (forgot!)

Once you get out of the habit, man, it's hard to rewire it. It's 100% possible. I've done it about 5 times already now. But, wow.

    4. Food Tracking (Forgot!)

Intentionally. This time. There's a balance between how much you can track your calories and how much it'll drive you crazy - most competent trainers and fitness professionals advocate for tracking when you're on a deliberate calorie cut (i.e. 90 days or so, no more) or when you feel you've lost a little control of your diet. I've been somewhat lax about my tracking, but probably around even or slightly in a surplus for my calories.

    5. Creating (remembered, sometimes)

I launched my RPG last summer - it's fun! I still love playing it myself. I also have a second book outlined that I'm dragging my feet on. I know my sales and exposure will increase with better media and awareness around it (a how-to series on getting started quickly - hell, even one video should be sufficient!)

    6. Work on stuff, generate income (remembered!)

And that's good! I optimized my client load, took control of my schedule, and I'm having great success with producing things for my collaborators and clients. I kind of overdid it from Nov - March. I think the next few months will be more balanced. The energy will come back for things like writing games and playing music.

    7. Learn stuff (remembered!)

I learned how to solve a Rubik's cube recently. The next step is to figure out how to do it not using the "beginner's method". In time. Also, I miss backgammon. It's such a beautiful game - I love to work out problems and practice against bots. It's challenging to keep the habit when I know there aren't many humans to compete against these days. I've improved my DM/GMing skills many times over.

    8. Read (remembered!)

I've read a ton of books lately. Fewer non fiction than usual, but I have a nice stack to mix in. Never stop reading.

    9. Sleep (forgot!)

It's been hit or miss since the travel and while my physical schedule isn't optimized, it's harder to get to sleep and stay asleep. I notice a reduction in my output and energy when sleep isn't dialed in. Priority is basically here and physical fitness and the rest will shuffle back into place.

    10. Hydrate (forgot!)

Same as 9. Same as 1. The basics matter.
