10 Things That Instantly Give You Confidence
1. Stand tall with a strong posture.
It's impossible to not feel better when changing from a slumped-over posture with a rounded back to a tall, proud posture with arms at your sides.
2. Approach someone who intimidates you, make eye contact, smile, and say "Hello."
You don't necessarily have to do anything more - you can just walk away - though if you do this right, some sort of positive conversation will likely ensue.
3. Experience a small win - any win will do.
You don't have to throw a winning touchdown to tap into this confidence booster. It can be as simple as making your bed when you typically don't make it, or getting out the door for a run when you don't feel like doing it.
4. Lift weights.
If you don't have weights, at least do some sort of body weight exercises. It is always a mood and confidence booster. I've never lifted weights and *not* felt good afterward.
5. Run.
Same as strength training, running never fails to make me feel like I can take on that world.
6. Help someone.
Much like small wins, this doesn't have to be some grand gesture. Simply giving someone a hand with something can serve as a reminder that you are useful, thereby boosting confidence.
7. Put positivity out in the world and watch it come back.
If you spread positivity enough, it will inevitably come back to you. Maybe not the first time, the second time, or the tenth time, but keep doing it and some people will reciprocate.
8. Jam out to Journey's "Don't Stop Believin."
C'mon, it's impossible to listen to this song and *not* feel good!
9. Make a plan to do something and then execute it.
Everyone in the world has plans. How many people see those plans through? Think of something you want to do, write down a plan to make it happen, and then *at least* take the first step. You will be guaranteed to feel more confident just by doing this.
10. Tell the truth even when you don't want to.
Having the strength to do it is a major confidence booster.
11. BONUS: When in doubt, fake it 'til you make it.
I'm a firm believer in "fake it 'til you make it." That approach has its critics, and I appreciate the opposite opinion, but for me, it just works. It's not a long-term solution, but it helps when you need an immediate burst of confidence.
