7 Reasons to Skip the Alcohol

7 Reasons to Skip the Alcohol
Preview

    1. Drinking and Aging

Alcohol is known to speed up the ageing process, so if you want to look older than you are, drinking too much is a great way of going about it. Regular drinking can cause numerous problems with skin health, such as dehydration, redness, puffiness, and can make you look bloated. In addition, regular drinking can also lead to other issues.

    2. Drinking and Sleep

Alcohol is known to have a negative impact on sleep quality and duration, as it can interfere with the body’s natural sleep cycles. While drinking may initially make you feel more relaxed and drowsy, it can actually disrupt your sleep and cause you to wake up during the night. Alcohol is a depressant, which means it can reduce the amount of REM sleep you get, which is the most restorative stage of sleep. In addition, drinking alcohol can also lead to dehydration, which can lead to further sleep disruption.

    3. Alcohol as a Diversion

Alcohol is known to divert attention away from meaningful activities, such as hobbies and self-improvement. It can often be used as a way to avoid facing problems, or as a way to escape from difficult emotions. Drinking can also be used to avoid difficult conversations, or to avoid addressing underlying issues in relationships.

    4. Drinking and Money

Alcohol can have a significant impact on your finances, as it can be a costly habit to maintain. Regular drinking can lead to increased spending on alcohol purchases, as well as on unhealthy food and drinks. Additionally, drinking can also lead to risky financial decisions, such as spending too much money, or spending money on activities or items that you don’t need. Regular drinking can also lead to increased spending on social activities, such as going out to bars or clubs, which can add up over time.

You save a lot of money when you order a mineral water versus a $12 glass of wine, which turns into $24 quickly when you start feeling the effects of the first glass and order the second one!

    5. Alcohol and Anxiety

Alcohol is known to have a profound impact on increasing anxiety levels, and can lead to the feeling of “hangxiety” following a day of drinking. Be mindful of how much alcohol you consume, as it can have a significant effect on your emotions and mental health.

    6. How Alcohol Wastes your Time

That happy hour drink you have several days a week, ends up costing you way more than an hour of your time. The time you sit there is one thing, but what happens after is another. Usually not a lot. Your motivation and energy are sapped. You find yourself saying, "I'll do it tomorrow", days, weeks and months on end. It wastes so much of your time.

    7. Alcohol and Hangovers

When you wake up with a hangover, you experience a variety of symptoms, including headaches, fatigue, dehydration, and irritability. All or all of these factors can make you feel lethargic and non productive. Alcohol is a depressant and over time it will numb the dreams and aspirations you'd planned on life turning out to be into something you get through and settle for surviving instead of thriving.
