9 Ways That One Can Improve Their Character

I see "improving Character" as more of winning the battle within and being at peace with your inner self.

We all have our “inner demons” we’re battling with. Your character no matter how hidden would always show up in how you act as it affects your mindset and actions.

Another thing to remember is your character is built in the nitty-gritty moments of life.

The hardest times and the most difficult moments bring the most powerful lessons and experiences you will ever have in your entire life.

“Character is not something you buy, it is not a commodity that can be battered for; it is not a quality suited for only the rich and famous; rather, character is built upon the foundational commitment of love, honesty, and compassion for others.” - Byron L. Pulsifer

    1. Protect your Integrity

Integrity is the practice of living by one's moral and ethical code, which is a sign of character.

When I got into college, part of the school’s anthem was “knowledge, genuine and pure …in character and learning.”

It resonated so much with me because at a point in High school, I got frustrated with mediocrity and desperate to be on top that I started cheating in most tests and exams.

Then I noticed without cheating, I was getting dumber.

One poor decision like that can hurt your integrity and character as a whole so much that I swore in college to rather fail than cheat again.

A key to protect your integrity is to ditch your 𝙗𝙖𝙙 𝙝𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙩𝙨 so you can find your true integrity.

    2. Be Honest

There’s no good character without honesty as honesty is the foundation of a solid character.

It applies to your words, actions and even your intentions.

One test I’ve seen with honesty – is how you deal with things like power and money. The fact is, money only amplifies character traits, it doesn’t turn people good or bad.

For example, people who blow up money all of a sudden show they haven’t built up the necessary character or skills in order to look after that money.

    3. Be Humble

As simple as it sounds – most of us have a problem with “Ego.” We naturally like to boast and show off maybe to feel better about ourselves or to seek approval.

Humility is being mindful of your Ego and avoiding the enemy Pride.

The danger and downside of pride is how it blinds us from our own mistakes and can hinder our growth necessary to build a solid character.

With pride – you make the same mistake over and over again simply because you can’t humble yourself to learn from the warnings of others and your own mistakes.

    4. Be Obsessed with Personal Growth

It’s said that we’re never the same as time passes – we’re either getting better or getting worse.

Personal growth is not an option when it comes to improving your character.

Its beyond reading self-help books but working on your mindset and taking responsibility for your life and actions.

Those who build solid characters are those who have worked relentlessly on their beliefs, character traits & skills.

    5. Practice the Golden Rule

Treat others the same way you want to be treated. Your actions towards others shows how you invite them to treat you.

    Love is the ultimate.

We all have our own struggles, and it's important to remember that everyone is fighting a battle that we know nothing about.

People are not things – so learn to use things and love people; rather than the opposite.

    6. Get out your comfort zone

Get out of your comfort zone to build character, wealth and the life you desire.

By leaning unto discomfort and facing them head on - you learn more about yourself and develop resilience needed to improve your character and attitude to life.

    7. Take Extreme Ownership

Life throws curveballs at you all the time to keep you on your toes.

Rather than shying away or complaining – understand they’re opportunities to mold yourself into who you are truly meant to be.

It’s in those challenging moments that character and faith is built.

    8. Get Disciplined

Life organizes itself around the standards you set.

Discipline is key to build your character faster than anything else. This character trait alone will you put you years ahead of everyone else.

I don't know any successful person that's is not disciplined in at least one or two things they're known for.

Whatever you want to achieve - discipline would help you develop the character to not just achieve it but sustain it when it happens.

    9. Be grateful

Imagine deciding to live in gratitude because that’s the life you choose whoever the circumstance.

What impact would it have on your character?

You’re not a hypocrite if you practice gratitude when you don’t feel grateful.
It’s virtue, not hypocrisy, when you feel like losing your temper, but don’t.
It’s character, not hypocrisy, if you show up for work when you’d rather be on vacation. - Dan Rockwell
