A Journey With Joplin

    1. An Endorsement for Evernote for PKM

I saw an article from Tiago Forte (of "Building A Second Brain") where he complained of the learning curve with Notion and Obsidian and how their powerful interfaces tend to get in the way of him simply being able to record and express his ideas. He said he'd stick with Evernote - good news for me as I already use it (though I have 2 accounts to get around upload limits).

    2. A Nasty Surprise from Evernote

They hamstrung the free account to a single notebook with no more than 50 notes and limited the amount of notes per month on free accounts. I considered upgrading to a paid account but the price is too steep.

    3. Export From Evernote

Notebooks with more than 100 Notes had to be split into 100 note files. I've been working on importing my archives to Joplin, but part of the work is re-merging these split notebooks.

    4. Enter Joplin

I looked for tools that can import/handle the Evernote proprietary archive file format ENEX. I found Joplin.

    5. Migrate to Notion/Obisidian (TBD)

Notebooks with more than 100 Notes had to be split into 100 note files. I've been working on importing my archives to Joplin, but part of the work is re-merging these split notebooks.

    6. Could Joplin Work for A Digital Garden? (TBD)

    7. Sync With Cloud/Other Devices (TBD)

There is a paid option for this, but apparently, it already has some functionality with DropBox and OneNote - I'd prefer to use Google Drive, but we'll see...

    8. Does Joplin Do OCR/Handwriting Recognition (TBD)

I've scanned handwritten notes and journals into Evernote and the text becomes searchable, which is nice. I'm not sure if Joplin will do the same.

    9. Could Joplin Facilitate Zettelkasten (TBD)

    10. Could Joplin Facilitate Bullet Journaling (TBD)
