Advice for my son
1. Meditate daily
The daily practice of meditation had been a game-changer for me. I wish I had learned about meditation much earlier in my life.
It does not have to be complex or long. But consistent practice gives the most benefit. Make it part of your daily routine, and it's best to do it when you don't feel like doing it. Even a 2 minute meditation is better than nothing.
2. Read The Daily Stoic
Self-reflection is key to living a life with content. If you don't have guiding principles, you will eventually find yourself lost, anxious, and depressed. Living your best in the moment is key.
3. Learn to breathe
Basic breathing is never really taught because we just do it. But having some awareness around breathing, being conscious of it, will go a long way in relieving anxiety and other ailments.
4. Read "Rich Dad, Poor Dad"
This is a mind-expanding book. Simple concepts are relayed in a way that stimulates parts of your brain that were dormant.
5. Love is attention
Everyone has a different love language, but the underlying theme is attention. The sooner you realize this, the easier love is understood.
6. Time is your most important non-renewable resource.
Don't squander your time. You were given a gift by being here. You didn't ask to be born. Every day you wake up is a gift. We cannot expect another tomorrow will come.
7. The health of your body and mind are intertwined.
Energy flows back and forth between your mind and body. Take care of your body and your mind will be healthy. Take care of your mind and your body will be healthy.
8. Have a daily ritual
I like "The Miracle Morning" book as a guide, but you can find many ways to start your day right. It will help you live your best life when you have a regular morning routine.
9. Be humble but proud
Watch your internal dialogue and focus on the good stuff. Let go of the bad stuff. Focus on supporting your mind's processes.
10. Read "Man's Search for Meaning" once every year or so
Just a reminder that suffering is optional, even in the face of the most dire circumstances.
