All the techniques I'm using to get rid of writer's block
1. Forget about the thought that you might write something terrible - write anything
The hardest part of anything is getting started. It's hard to put on shoes and go for a basketball workout, it's hard to turn on the oven and bake this cake, and it's hard to open a word processor and start writing. Just put something down on paper first, it will be much easier to edit and improve it after.
2. Think about what you want to say, then say it
Come up with a simple plan of what you are going to deliver on paper. Programmers call it "Pseudocode", I call it "Pseudo writing". List everything in a bullet points way about what your character wants to do, where, with whom, and what are the consequences.
3. Use prompts
There are lots of resources online such as websites, mobile apps, blogs, and mail lists that can give you ideas for what to write about.
4. Take a break
Make a coffee, take a walk, or play with a cat or a dog.
5. Talk to someone
Sometimes it can be helpful to talk to someone about what you're willing to write. They may be able to give you ideas or help you figure out what you're trying to say.
6. Give yourself a time limit
Use the Pomodoro timer for example. Sometimes it works for me.
7. Write about something you know
Whether it's an experience, a problem any obstacle, conflict, achievement, or adventure. When you write about something that you are passionate about or have a lot of knowledge in, it will come more easily and naturally to you.
8. Find your ideal reader/listener
This could be a friend, family member, or even a pet. Write for them.
9. Free write
Write without stopping, focusing on getting thoughts and ideas down on paper without censoring yourself.
10. Write the bad stuff first
Get all of the uninspired, forced writing out of the way first so that the rest of the writing process is more enjoyable.
11. Get a New Perspective
Change your point of view to see things from a different angle. This could help you approach the topic from a new angle and give you some new ideas.
