Basic Life Advice

Just 10 things that you can choose to do to make your life and the lives of others better

    1. Show respect for everyone who works for a living, no matter how trivial their job is.

I have been working since I was 14, I attended two different colleges, never graduated. No matter what job I have ever worked, I always was grateful for it. I also think those that work anywhere doing anything must be valuable to that organization, company or business.

    2. Send flowers

Find a reason, any reason at all to send or give flowers to someone. It could be a friend, co-worker, family member or even someone you only know through seeing them at a place you frequent. Nobody can feel sad getting flowers.

    3. Always count your blessings

This works especially well during bad times. It is not easy to do sometimes because when we are down, it's hard to pull out of it. But when you start to think and hyper focus on all you have to grateful for, whatever has you down tends to seem a little less significant.

    4. Compliment people whenever the opportunity presents itself

Verbal Flowers if you will. A small compliment can go a long way. It can change someone's mood instantly.

    5. Wave at the children in a school bus

I don't know if anyone else does this or not, but every time I see a school bus full of kids, I immediately get transported to my 7 year old self and remember the feeling of being on the school bus. It felt different going to school, than it did going home. I remember waving at cars while on the bus hoping someone would notice. So now that we are adults, wave at the children and if you get a wave back, how can you not feel good?

    6. Don't expect fairness

Life is great! Not all the time, and not for everyone. Expect disappointments, expect setbacks and expect betrayal. Life is not fair, never has been, never will be. Excepting that cruel fact makes it a little easier to bear when unfair things happen to us which inevitably will at some point, maybe multiple times in your life.

    7. Do something nice for someone who can't do the same for you

You can do small little nice things for strangers that that they will never know it was from you. Help someone anonymously if you can. I recently came across a story involving the late James Gandolfi, yes Tony Soprano from the hit HBO series. It's hard to find a bad thing said or written about him, in fact, more stories came out about his philanthropy after his untimely passing. He would pay for random strangers bills when he would read about things like that in the newspaper when people would fall on hard times. He even paid off people's mortgages, and he did all of this Anonymously. These people never knew it was him and they could never repay him. Fascinating.

    8. Once in a while, take the scenic route

    9. If you are gifted at dealing with people, you can work virtually anywhere

    10. Choose your attitude

Humans are the only creatures on the planet that have the ability to change our attitude. We can adjust our mood at a moments notice if we choose to. If you don't take charge of your own attitude, someone else will.
