Beat the Monday Blues
For those who work the M-F grind, Mondays can be a downer. Just some things to keep in mind.
1. Going to work is ultimately your own choice.
No one is holding a gun to your head to go to work (hopefully). This life is all about choices and consequences. You have the option and you choose to go to work because of consequences. Reframe your thinking around work in general.
2. You have limited time on this earth. Make the best of it.
So you've chosen to go to work. Now you get to decide how you want to show up. You have the power to frame the day as positive or as negative as you see fit.
3. Breathe
If you're feeling some anxiety, try some box breathing or other breath exercise before you leave, on the commute, or before you step in the door (or before you login).
4. Have a morning routine and stick to it
A morning routine (like the Miracle Morning) will ground you in good thoughts every day, including Mondays.
5. Exercise
If you have time to exercise before work starts, do it. Get those endorphins working in your favor.
6. Get a good night's sleep on Sunday night.
Go to bed a little earlier, avoid screen time, and read a positive book before bed. In fact, have a Sunday night ritual to ease the anxiety of needing to get back into work mode.
7. Meditate
Make this part of your daily routine, but give it extra attention on Mondays. Observe your thoughts and be mindful of what you're telling yourself.
8. Reduce anxiety by having a plan.
So you don't like your job but you feel stuck? Have a plan on how to move on. Picture yourself at your dream job in a year, 5 years, 10 years. Break down the steps that you need go take to get there on a yearly basis, then weekly, then daily. Do the daily thing without fail. Take steps toward your growth incrementally. Mountains are climbed step by step.
9. Be grateful
You have a job! You have the ability to work and support yourself. You are living better than your great great grandparents ever imagined. You have a supercomputer in your pocket (smartphone) and the world at your fingertips. You live in an amazing age.
10. Work is service
When you step in the door, tell yourself you are here to serve. You have been given the gift of this life without having to prove yourself worthy of it. What great thing might you accomplish today? What person will be thankful that are there? Who's day will be better just by being present? The possible outcomes are limitless. And maybe it will be a horrible day filled with setbacks and stressors. But this is life! You are not in control of the external factors but you can frame any situation the way you want it to be framed. An angry customer shows up and is being negative? He has no power over making you feel bad. Respond but don't react. It's your choice.
