Bees of Brandenburg

I had the opportunity to ask about this beekeepers wagon today. It led to a guided tour, which was very interesting. We are all a little more bee aware these days so it was good to look back at how it was done in the old East Germany.

    1. These bee trailers used to be common but no longer pass the registration inspections. There are only a few left now and are not allowed to drive.

    2. The contain 36 bee hives, which can be harvested from inside the trailer.

    3. They have a honey extraction room with a centrifuge. It is also the beer drinking room ;)

    4. The department of agriculture used to pay people 5 marks per hive per year if they would drive them out into the fields. They don’t do that anymore.

    5. I think he said the return of honey used to be 1.5 tonnes per year. It might have been more.
