Chat GPT fun

This morning I decided to see what all the noise about this open AI project was all about. I searched my name and received a canned response about it not having enough information about me, no surprise. Next, I searched for James Altucher, and it gave me something similar to his Skip the Line about the author. Hedgefund manager, author, podcaster, and so on. I was having a little fun putting in different topics, and some of the responses were good, while others were less than desirable.

I searched for my new novel, and the AI quickly pulled up the related Amazon information info: Title, Author, and Genre, but it could not pull any plot info. I wondered if I could "teach" it about the book. So I asked. It responded that I could indeed teach it. I then entered the entire synopsis into the chat, and here is its response.

"Thank you for sharing the synopsis of the Nemesis Directive with me. Based on this description, it seems that the book is a work of fiction in the action or thriller genre, and it follows the story of Dexter Michaels as he embarks on a mission to find and break up human trafficking rings in the United States. The plot involves Dexter joining a program created in response to the President's "Nemesis Directive," and it seems to involve elements of espionage and violence as he works to gather information and dismantle the trafficking rings. It also appears that the book explores themes of love, loss, and revenge, as Dexter is motivated to find his fiancé Stacy, who has been kidnapped. I hope this information is helpful. If you have any further questions or need more assistance, please don't hesitate to ask."

The most interesting part of this response is "the book explores themes of love, loss, and revenge," because I didn't enter any of that in the book's synopsis. Now I feel very strongly that I need to enter that phrase or a version of it into the book jacket or the synopsis itself.

So, in the end, this seems like a fun little tool with a million potential uses as it keeps improving, but it's still no substitute for good old-fashioned creative writing.

I'd be interested in reading about your experiences with Chat GPT and ideas for its potential uses.

Have a great one, and Happy New Year to you all!
