Christmas Eve / Day Traditions
I don't have a lot of my own family around but I've got a friends family I've spent years with. They aren't traditional... but they are. Here's what we did tonight, which is tradition for us.
1. Dressed as our favorite Christmas movie character
In years past we all bought the same Christmas pajamas and wore them. There's always a theme. It definitely makes one join in festivities showing up in a costume. This year I was Kevin from Home Alone. My plastic toy rifle freaked out a couple of women riding bikes as I was getting in the car to go ... I don't know if they knew it was a plastic toy as they rode by....
2. Everyone brings a side dish or appetizer
I bring Bitchin sauce and naan bread. I bring them to all of our gatherings. It always gets eaten which means it's a good choice considering there's always a lot of food.
3. Schnitzel
My friends, the hosting family are from Czech originally and continue traditions in food. George makes pork and chicken schnitzel every year.
4. Sausage soup
George's mom, Mirka makes an awesome soup every year.
