Christmas Eve traditions

Well, we don't actually have any but here we go ...

    1. Pantomime

When I was little we often went to a pantomime on Christmas Eve. I have vague memories of slight anxiety about getting home and being asleep before Santa came!

    2. Cooking the turkey

My Mum used to cook the turkey on Christmas Eve. When I was about 6 I was ill, on and off, for quite a while. I remember one time going in the kitchen, looking at the turkey, saying I don't want any and being ill.

    3. Circus

Back in the day, we often went to a circus. I have memories of being ill then too!! I was very allergic to the animals as well, which was a separate issue!!

    4. Carol singers

The Salvation Army used to come to our street and sing carols.

    5. Wrapping presents

In later years, I would wrap presents for my Mum and Dad on Christmas Eve.

    6. Meal prep

One year my Mum and Dad would come to me on Christmas Day. The next year I would go to them. The years they came to me, I'd be prepping food, cleaning, and maybe some last minute shopping.

    7. Radio Times

Before Christmas TV became just repeats I would go through the Radio Times and circle films and programmes I wanted to watch.

    8. Watch a film

Probably something like Die Hard although Bruce says it's not a Christmas film! He should know.

    9. Non-alcoholic sparkiling white wine

I discovered a brand called Helmut Schmitt. I would open the back door, aim the bottle and pop the cork. I'd feel very decadent drinking it!

    10. Goals

Around Christmas time I would start writing goals for the following year.
