I'm reading a book called Kindfulness. It has a set of thought exercises that are useful to mull over. One thought exercise asks us to consider: What if you abandoned all thoughts of the past? If you abandoned the past by showing no interest in it at all, you would

    1. You wouldn't think about where you lived

    And so all thoughts about how it impacted you. You wouldn't think about previous experiences there. You would come to the present and breathe.

    2. You wouldn't think about where you were born

    And so you wouldn't think about how that impacts your perspective nor any previous experiences. You would come to the present and breathe.

    3. You wouldn't think about who your parents were

    And so you wouldn't think about how they influenced you. You would come to the present and breathe.

    4. You wouldn't think about what your upbringing was like

    And so you wouldn't think about how it might have influenced you or your decisions. You would come to the present and breathe.

    5. You wouldn't think about your experiences with others

    You wouldn't think about whether they treated you poorly or well. You would come to the present and breathe.

    6. You wouldn't think about what happened a moment ago

    Any experiences that would jump in and affect your decision making - going someplace, traveling, eating different foods, staying in your comfort zone would not be a consideration. You would come to the present and breathe.
