Dabbling with Mastodon
1. Getting Started
I've been over Twitter for a while. I deleted my account altogether a few weeks ago. It had worked well, for a while, when I got into PKM and found others on Twitter who shared my interests. But, then, my timeline started being filled with stuff I didn't want to read. Even before the Elon Musk thing, I'd already gone.
2. Twitter Alternative
I'd been scouting around for a possible alternative. I'd tried a few different networks but nothing stuck. Discord was working as the best option. I use Discord a lot for specific topics such as Twos and Obsidian. Will Mastodon gain sufficient traction? It's hard to say but it looks like a good place to be right now.
3. Unusual
I am still fathoming things out. I started by joining the PKM server hosted by @nicole" target="_blank">Nicole van der Hoeven. I've just joined a server for Francophiles. Each time you join a server you have to sign up and set up a new profile.
4. Focused
What I like about Mastodon is the focus. It pares back on all the extraneous content that I don't want to see. It's really conversations about specific topics in one place.
5. App and Web
You can download the app on to your phone or device, and access your profiles via your browser.
6. Shiny and new
I love exploring new stuff, working things out. Who knows how it will evolve. But Mastodon seems to have gained significant numbers of sign ups in recent days.
7. Where to find me
If you want to follow me on Mastodon, this is where you can find me: @nicola" target="_blank">https://pkm.social/ @nicola
