Eight (8) Habits to help you become Successful In Life and business

"Success" can mean different things to different people and even change meaning to us at different moments in our lives.

When I was 18 all i wanted was to get into a "good career" i thought my family and society would be proud of. Today, building career for the sake of being recognized or for only financial rewards means nothing to me.

Our habits tell a lot on what and how much we can do.

There's no such thing as Overnight success. People often look at those who’ve “made it” and assume they were in the right place at the right time.

It's almost never the case. The lives of successful people are ones filled with habits.

The Greek philosopher, Aristotle once said, "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act but a habit."

Therefore, to become successful, we have to cultivate the habits of successful people.

8 Habits I found to make you successful in your life and business

    1. The Habit of Preparation

    Confidence comes from preparation.

The first time I engaged in debate as a kid - I flopped. I rehearsed everything on my own without asking anyone at home for help in terms of rehearsals.

When the D-day came - it was a speech and prize giving day, i presented and stammered to the point the debaters had to collect the mic from me.

It turned out I didn't prepare enough.

The 10,000 hours rule popularized by Malcolm Gladwell can give you a good idea on what is required to build expertise in anything.

Abraham Lincoln said something about preparation - "Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe."

Successful people don't leave their success to chance. They prepare for it. They plan, they set goals for themselves and they work towards them.

    2. The Habit of Action Taking.

Planning and preparing aren't enough. Successful people take action. Without action, preparations are just that– preparations.

To become successful, cultivate the habit of taking action.

One thing i learned from Entrepreneurship is - nothing happens until you take action.

    3. Having a Positive Attitude

Research has concluded the average person thinks more negative thoughts than positive thoughts.

Instead of looking for reasons why things should turn out well, the normal man fixates on all the different ways things could go to hell.

Wonder why positive thinking is a trait found in successful people?

One of the most successful college basketball coaches in America, John Calipari said, “This is one of the most important themes I want you to take from me: Stay as positive and upbeat as you can be. I’ll say it many times: if you can dream it, you can be it.”

Your reality is the result of your thoughts and belief system.

Stay positive. Believe you can and you can.

    4. The Habit of Reading.

Better still - the habit of learning. Its why "Education" beats school system. You don't need a classroom to build your mind.

    "Leaders are readers."

If the people you surround yourself with shame you for reading its either they are action takers to the max who do more than they learn from others or you're surrounding yourself with the wrong people.

Successful people are avid readers because, in reading, you gain more knowledge, you become more creative, and you get more ideas.

Reading books is like having a conversation with the authors, knowing their secrets, their struggles, and learning from them.

It is a quick way to the top because you are learning from someone else's experience. You don't need to waste time making your own mistakes.

    5. The Habit of Networking.

Successful people know the value of networking.

They know that to be successful, you need to surround yourself with successful people.

The value of your net worth is in your network.

    Learn the art of networking.

    Same with life in general.

If you want to gave a smoother relationship in your working place - learn to interact and network with other coworkers rather than gossiping in private.

Check out all the successful creators you know on social media platforms - they're good networkers with other accounts.

    6. The Habit of Waking Up Early.

I love all the testimonials from the popular "5 am club" popularized by Robbin Sharma.

It reminds me of my family home where my parents have always prioritized waking up early for devotions and making healthy breakfast till this day.

While we all have the same number of hours in a day, successful people have more productive hours because they start their day earlier than others.

Waking up early is not as hard as people think. With practice, your body gets adapted to it. Just making effort to wake up early can influence your system for good to start seeing the need to go to bed early.

However, this would be irrelevant if you still cannot find the value of going to bed early else you sabotage your health for productivity sake.

    7. The Habit of Personal Care.

When i first lost my health to burnout and ill-health i found out i took better care of my "computer" than i did for myself.

    - Run routine check-ups - Always back up your system, - Get the Latest Antivirus.

Some people have the same addiction with their cars or their pets.

    Wait a minute.

What do you do to keep your system in balance on a daily basis? How many more times would you use energy drinks and fast foods to stay active while you can't find time for what you put in your body?

Contrary to popular beliefs, successful people do not work themselves to an early grave.

They don't neglect their health and personal life.

Zig Ziglar said, "The man who earns a million but destroys his health in the process is not a success."

To be successful, your health and wellbeing are paramount.

    ● Eat good food.

    ● Exercise regularly.

    ● Get plenty of rest and spend time in nature

    8. Helping Others

Lift others up and help them achieve their goals too; good karma always comes back around!

I'm fascinated by the likes of Russel Brunson in building Click Funnels and all his writings especially "Expert Secrets"

The key point is - "contribution is the key to continued growth."

And Its only by shifting our focus to helping others that we continue to grow.

    9. In Summary,

Habits are what make us who we are.

Yes, some of them may need patience and consistency to develop but in the long run, they will yield fruits.

Successful habits make for successful people. Employ these habits today.
