Favorite mobile apps that I don't use every day

I think I've posted a list of apps that I use every day at some point in the past. However, the apps that I use every day are a bit mundane and boring ("Clock" app, anyone?). This is a list of my favorite apps that I don't use every day, but are awesome enough to keep on my phone for occasional use.

    1. Tripadvisor

I like to use the Tripadvisor app for planning vacations. It makes it easy to show all of the popular attractions and restaurants in the area on a map.

    2. Collectable

If you like collecting sports memorabilia and have some fun money laying around, Collectable is an amusing way to "invest" it. You can buy shares in sports cards and memorabilia and trade them like stocks.

    3. Couch to 5K

The Couch to 5K app gives you an easy progression from walking and jogging to running a full 5K in a few weeks. It's a fun way to develop a running habit.

    4. Zillow

Sometimes when I'm traveling, I wonder how much a certain home I see is worth. That's when I pull out the Zillow app and look it up.

    5. Google Translate

So useful when traveling internationally. Type in any phrase, or say something into the microphone, and it does a pretty good job with translation. The coolest feature is the one where you use your camera and it will overlay the translation on top of any text your phone can see.

    6. MLB

The MLB app is where I go for baseball news and to follow baseball games during the season. They have a neat real-time play-by-play view that lets you follow any game for free.

    7. Libby

I have accounts at two local library systems. Both of them use Libby to provide free ebook and magazine loans.

    8. LastPass

I must have hundreds of passwords. LastPass allows me to use secure passwords that I don't have to memorize for each of the hundreds of accounts I have.

    9. PhotoScan

This is an app made by Google, and it's one of my favorite apps. I use it to scan things like artwork, baseball cards, and photos. It automatically removes glare from glossy pictures.

    10. Google Photos

I have my entire photograph collection going back more than 20 years stored in Google Photos, and I can access it all from my phone.
