Five arguments for and five arguments against the death penalty
I live in the US.
1. For: An eye for an eye
For heinous or repeatable crimes, the death penalty could be appropriate.
2. For: cheaper than keeping someone in prison for decades
3. For: Hardened criminals can "train" others while in jail. It is good to reduce this time
The average prisoner awaiting execution at the end of 2019, meanwhile, had spent nearly 19 years on death row.

4. For: Life without Parole is essentially a death sentence anyway it just takes 30-40 years to carry out
5. For: The death penalty can be a deterrent to some people
6. Against: what if they are innocent?
This happens more often than it should.
7. Against: many people who commit crimes that qualify for capital punishment are mentally ill
8. Against: more expensive than keeping someone in prison for decades
Legal cases in the US can cost a lot.
