How can we save Notepd?
I think all the ideas presented in this challenge so far are excellent, so I decided to add a few of my own.
NotePD is a wonderful platform with a lot of potential to grow. It is an oasis of thoughtfulness and creativity in the wasteland of social media, and it would be really painful to lose such a great community.
1. We Need James Altucher Fully on Board
@JamesAltucher is the primary cofounder and face of NotePD. Most if not all of us joined this platform partly to read more of James's writing and have a chance to interact with him. We can list all of the possible improvements to save NotePD, but without James taking an active interest in the site, these are all empty wishes.
2. We Need Paolo Rosson Fully on Board
@paolo is also a cofounder of NotePd and the primary developer of the platform. If we can't get James's attention, maybe we can get in contact with Paolo?
3. NotePD Might Need a Name Change
When you try to search for "NotePD" on Google or any other search engine, they will think you're looking for information on Windows Notepad, Notepad++, or a place to buy physical notepads. A more unique name might help with SEO and drawing the attention of people who may be interested in joining this platform.
4. Some Level of Moderation Is Needed to Filter out the Ads Spamming the Main Feed
The ad posts are an eyesore on the main feed and give off an impression that this site is being neglected.
5. If There Must Be Ad Posts, Have Them Pay to Post
Call them "sponsored posts" or something. If we're going to be spammed anyway, the advertisers may as well help to pay the server bills.
6. Figure Out Ways to Monetize the Site Without Alienating Users
NotePD was never a big enough platform to have Premium Posts as a primary monetization tool. I always thought being able to give "tips" to individual posts and users would've been a good way to monetize the site and encourage users in putting more effort in posts. Subscriptions are another possible avenue, but I don't know if NotePD is a large enough platform to make this viable.
7. Fix the Broken AI Features
I mostly miss having the AI create abstract images to accompany my posts.
8. For Users: Start Archiving Idea Lists You Want to Preserve
Unless the NotePD team start acknowledging the issues plaguing the site and assure users that they will be fixed, I fear we are on borrowed time. This website is liable to disappear one day without warning, so start archiving your lists now. If you have lists that are bookmarked from other users, archive them too.
