How I use Obsidian as a Single Personal Dashboard

I won’t shut up about this app. It is my "second brain." A simple concept of text files on your computer that is very powerful. Thanks to @RayInNJ for the inspiration for a list.

1. It is a folder of text files that lives on your computer and you can also synchronize it with your phone if you pay $10 a month

You can use a lot of it for free if you want

2. It has a mobile app and it is essentially cloud based as well, so even though you can see the files on your computer Obsidian will synchronize it across your cell phone and any other computers that you use

3. There’s a concept called a vault so I have one vault for work and another for Home and another for creative projects, but you could just easily have three folders inside the same vault

4. For my home vault, I organize it like a file cabinet, so I have a folder for the house and I create documents of notes. I have a folder for cars. I have a folder for travel. I have folders for taxes.

I use Emojis to keep everything easy to see:

5. Obsidian will accept pasted images and also render PDF files so you can type something and paste an image and it will all be there in your note

6. Obsidian has a full text search. Most of the time I will pre-fix a new note with today’s date so that it is easy to go back and find things from a certain time.

8. If you use it on your phone, you can take pictures with your phone and include them in your documents

11. I use other systems at this point, but you can also use it to organize interactions with AI and when you are feeling more advanced, you can point AI at your vault to get insights or give you a to-do list
