How many domain names does one person need?

    1. I currently own five domain names

This is a very small number - for me! I've had a paring down exercise to offload domains I no longer use or need.

    2. I buy domain names like some women buy shoes

I'm not sure of the appeal of domain names. The perfect email address. A new website. A great project idea. Just because I can.

    3. It's fun buying new TLDs

I love searching for quirky domain names. I like the unusual options.

    4. It does confuse people

I have a long time friend who has to email me several times because the addresses he has have always expired by the time he gets round to messaging me. He emailed at Christmas - it took several attempts!

    5. The cost mounts up

I'm currently spending £105/year on domain names. This includes Chris' business domain plus one for us and the neighbours which I fund.

    6. A purpose for each domain

Now that I've reduced my list, I use each for a specific purpose. Different projects, digital gardens, personal etc. It makes sense to me!

    7. Retiring domains

I've decided to retire one of my domains. I've made a list of where I currently use it and where I need to update my details. I just like making work for myself.

    8. GoDaddy

I used a different registrar for a couple of domains as GoDaddy was showing them as unavailable. However, their process for updating DNS and nameservers was a bit glitchy. I use GoDaddy to buy domain names (nothing else) because their processes work consistently. If I'm hosting for someone, I ask them to purchase their domain from GoDaddy.
