How to avoid distraction

To answer @Hisariap 's challenge, here's what I do to avoid distraction while writing!

1. Use placeholder text so you don't have to stop writing

When you're in the flow of writing, and need to look something up - write 'tk' and keep writing. You can find the information you need later.
If you stop writing and start looking online, you'll get distracted.
Then when you're editing your work, run a search for 'tk' to find all the bits of information you need to find, and add them in.

2. Find music that helps you focus

The right music helps you get in the zone and power through a writing session.
For ages I thought I needed silence to work. Then I experimented with different types of music and eventually found a few genres that work to focus my mind. Lofi and binaural beats work for me, but test and find our what works for you!

3. Put your phone in airplane mode

Pretty straightforward, this one. Even better, put your phone in another room!

4. Use a timer

Use a physical timer. I often use a 'pomodoro' - a kitchen timer shaped like a tomato. It makes a satisfying ticking noise and constantly reminds me I'm under a deadline. Set it for 25 minutes then have a 5 minute break.

5. Use a browser addon to block sites that you get distracted by

Search for a browser addon that blocks sites that you choose. Then be honest, and add sites that distract you to its blacklist.
When try to visit one of those sites in a moment of weakness, it'll stop you.
You can also set the addons to only work during office hours.
