How To Live -27 conflicting answers and one weird conclusion - Derek Sivers - Balance Everything- 12 Insights
1. When we lack balance, we're upset.
Too much of this. Fear.
Too little of that. Love.
2. Notice the similarities in the physical and emotional definitions.
Physical upset: to knock yourself over.
Emotional upset: to act like a disturbed man/woman.
Physically unstable: a person who's likely to fall and fail.
Emotionally unstable: someone who is prone to dangerous, impulsive behavior.
3. Virtue is in the balance between extremes.
Insecure - confidence - egomaniac
Uptight - grace - clown
Coward - courage - daredevil
Selfishness generosity sacrifice
4. Imagine the different aspects of your life as the spokes in a wheel.
If any of the spokes on the wheel (spiritual, intellectual, health, wealth, emotional) are lacking it makes for a lopsided, wobbly wheel, causing you to crash.
5. Distraction steals what's not like down.
Life is filled with meaningless distractions. Unplug.
6. The wheel has infinite spokes.
There's always another spoke.
Spokes that you haven't seen yet.
Spokes that you wouldn't believe even if I told you about them.
Don't become attached to one spoke.
7. By balancing everything in your life, you postpone nothing.
You won't postpone happiness, love, dreams, or expression.
You'll live a happy dream.
This is how to live.
Thanks, Derek Sivers
