clever neighbor showed me how they built theirs
1. Start with a hollow brick column
2. Mount a traditional oversized mailbox in the top portion
3. Cut the bottom of the mailbox out
4. Add a shelf for outgoing mail or even a designated second box
5. In the bottom of the column, install a weatherproof locking box
6. Any mail inserted in the top will go into the locked mailbox
7. This is basically the same concept as the old-fashioned mailboxes where you can drop a letter in the top, but it is more neighborhood friendly
8. For small packages, you can add a magnetic latch on the front with a tip in box
9. With a tip in box, it would be a larger than right angle that would cover the opening when you opened it, but as you put a package in and close the door, the package would tumble down into your locked area
10. When you picked up your mail from this fortress, you could go back to your prepper, paradise, and start canning tomatoes
