Investing In Your Bigger Picture - Questions to Ask Yourself

The happiest, most fulfilled people work on their life, not just in their life. They recognize when they're just going through the motions. They periodically have the discipline to review their goals. Goals with deep meaning foster fulfillment.

When setting your goals, consider these questions:

    1. What is my definition for success in the next year?

Not someone else's definition. Not your parents definition. Not your boss's definition. Not your spouse's definition. It's too easy to do what others expect of you.

    2. How will I challenge myself?

Set an AIM goal....a stretch goal that you're not sure you'll achieve, but hope to figure out on the way there.

    3. If I knew I wouldn't fail, what would I try?

"A ship in port is safe, but that's not what a ship is built for." We aren't built for port, either. This question is about stretching your limits, testing your boundaries, and challenging your assumptions.

    4. What's the difference between a good and great year ahead?

The danger in setting goals is aiming too low. Set goals that move you towards great.

    5. What needs to change?

Different line of work? Different inner circle? Totally different approach or attitude toward current job? Embrace change. Look at it as a personal software upgrade.
