Lavatory door face slam

“Are you ok? Do you want some ice?” asked the flight attendant.

We both laughed. She had seen me struggling to close the airplane lavatory as I was going back to my seat and was getting up to help me.

The door seemed a bit stuck, but in reality, I had gotten confused about which side slides. While trying to determine what was preventing the door from closing, and at the same time not-so-intelligently using more force to close it, I slammed the door onto my face.

It hurt more than I would have thought, though it didn’t hurt my ego very much because I’m just too used to doing this type of thing to myself. As long as no one else is hurt, it’s a win.

My blunder is not what Amy Edmondson calls 'intelligent failure' in her wonderful book, 'Right Kind of Wrong.' There’s nothing intelligent about my mishap. 😊 It’s a sloppy mistake. I've learned many times to slow down, be calm, and stay grounded, especially when on my way to the stage, like I am now. 😊

But even sloppy mistakes can add joy and laughter to our lives. Sharing a chuckle with a caring flight attendant was one of my day’s highlights, and it’s not even noon yet.

What was your most recent mistake? How did you respond? How do you want to respond?
