List of areas where you are settling in your life

Can you sit and think about areas in your life where you have settled? You are not where you want to be or close to the goal you originally set out for and somewhere along the line, you settled. These are not all mine but I can think of things that apply or are relatable to most people

    1. Getting in shape

You set a goal back in January to get in shape. You got a membership to a gym, you were going 5 times a week, then after a month, you started going 3 times a week, then down to once a week or so. You managed to lose a little weight, tighten up a bit so now you realized you had settled for that result.

    2. Getting more sleep

You took steps to monitor you sleep habits, you got a Fitbit or something similar, and you find that you're getting about 4.4 hours of sleep per night. You decide to work on that and set to increase that to 8 hours per night. So, you start to decompress earlier, eat earlier, go to bed earlier and after awhile, you see that you are now at 7 hours per night. Then, you slowly start to go back to your old habits, you stop looking at your progress each day and out of curiosity weeks later, you glance at your average sleep on your app and see you are at 5.7 hours per night. Yes it's better than the 4.4 you were getting, but it's not the 8 hours you want and need, so you settled.

    3. Tolerating a toxic person

You may have to work with or spend time with someone who has a toxic, consistently negative mindset that always sucks the life out of you every time you are exposed to them. You make it a point to not spend any more time with this person and for a while you distance yourself, but then you start to notice they find their way back, you allow it, you never set boundaries, or had the difficult conversation about their toxicity to them, and out of guilt you start to let them take up your time and fill your mind with their toxic attitude. You may not spend as much time as you used to with them, but it is still effecting you in a negative way. You settled.

    4. Reading more

This is one that I am currently struggling with to be honest. I have read a lot of books, about 7 years ago, I was averaging only 3 books per year. I made an effort to read more books so I started to do that and the first year I read 8, almost 3x the amount of the year prior. Then I increased it to 10 the following year, then 15. The last 3 years, I took a dive. I read only 3 books in 2019, 2 in 2020 and this year only 1 so far. My ADD and OCD makes it difficult for me to focus for too long, any slight distraction takes me away from just about anything I am doing. I was actually in the middle of four books at the start of the year, I finished one, almost finished with another. I settled.

    5. Keeping Organized

I am fairly organized and neat. Some are more organized than others, some are compulsive about it (that used to be me, I changed that) and some are super messy, have clutter in every room , even their car is a mess. Well, maybe you made it a goal to be more organized in a specific area of your life, maybe in multiple areas. You did a good job, initially anyways, and you made significant progress after some time. However, little by little, day by day, week by week and now, you are not as organized as you'd imagined you would be and while you may not be as messy and unorganized as you once were, but somewhere along the line, you reverted back to your messy ways. You settled.
