Lunch with Her Grace. (2 min 36 sec)

    1. Unraveling the ego’s illusion.

I take a sip of my drink, leaning in as Her Grace talks about her journey with ACIM. “So, how do you let go of something that’s not real?” she asks, her eyes filled with curiosity.
I smile, knowing the depth of her question. “Her Grace the truth is, you don’t let go of the identity. It was never yours to begin with. The identity is like a shadow — there’s no substance to it. It’s a creation of the ego, which is nothing more than a thought system rooted in separation. The real question is, who is this ‘you’ that’s holding on? Who is the one that believes in the identity?”
Her Grace nods slowly, her brow furrowed as she processes. “So, if I’m not the identity, what am I?”
“You’re the awareness behind it all. The observer. The one who sees the identity but isn’t defined by it. When you live from this place, the identity naturally loosens its grip. It’s not about the identity letting go of you, because it never had you. You’re beyond it — always have been.”
Her eyes widen. “And the whole ‘us vs. them’ mentality? How does that play into this?”
I lean back, swirling my drink thoughtfully. “That mentality is the ego’s favorite trick. It thrives on separation — on creating sides, on making you believe there’s a ‘them’ to be against. But remember, whenever there’s more than one, there’s conflict. Two perspectives will inevitably clash. But in truth, everything is one, and where there’s oneness, there’s harmony. Love—God—Life itself — is unified. It’s when we identify with the separate self that we get lost in conflict.”
“So, it’s about embodying these principles,” she says, piecing it together.
“Exactly, Her Grace. You can read and learn all you want, but if it stays in the intellect, the ego’s still running the show. Living the truth —embodying it — means moving beyond theory. It’s about seeing through the ego’s games in real time, choosing love over fear, oneness over separation, every single moment. That’s what dissolves the ego, not just reading about it.
She sits back, her expression softened by realization. “It’s about living it, not just knowing it.”
I nod, feeling the depth of the conversation. “Yes, and attachment plays a big role too. We attach to forms — people, things, ideas — because the ego convinces us they give us identity. But in truth, attachment is just another way to reinforce the illusion of separateness. When you let go of attachment, you’re not losing anything real; you’re simply releasing the false belief that you need something outside yourself to be whole. Your true identity is already complete — no form can add to it, and none can take it away.”
Her Grace smiles, a calm clarity in her eyes. “I get it now. It’s about remembering who I really am.”
I reach across the table, squeezing her hand. “That’s it, Her Grace. And when you do, the ego’s grip loosens, and the truth becomes your living experience.”
The conversation feels lighter, like a breeze blowing away the last remnants of confusion, leaving only the warmth of shared understanding.
