Pondering James's Quote

“Don’t time travel into the past, roaming through the nuances as if they can change. Don’t bookmark pages you’ve already read.” ― @JamesAltucher

Below is what the quote means to me. I might miss the mark entirely, but worth pondering.

    1. Don't dwell in the past

The longer you dwell in the past, the more insane you get. Why?

Well, because “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” -Albert Einstein

Dwelling on the past means reading the same chapter repeatedly while expecting a different ending. The longer your dwell in the past, the harder it becomes to move forward. And life doesn’t wait.

Every second lived in the past is taken away from a chance to do greatness in the present.

I.e. If you keep grudges, you are living in the past.

    2. Don't let the weight of the pass slow you from sprinting into the future

Don't let the weight of old opinions, beliefs, judgments, biases, bad experiences, traumas, etc., stop you from reaching the stars. The heavier the weight, the slower you will move forward.

    3. Don't fool your self

What is the point of bookmarking a page you have already read?

If you need to take action, do it now. You know what needs to be done.

Bookmarking it will only add to your cognitive load and does nothing.

You know you will unlikely read it again.

PS: I do bookmark pages I have read in the hope that I will use them later for something. I rarely do.

    4. Don't regret

Regret stain the gift of the present and the wonder of tomorrow.

    5. There is no point in doing it

As we grow and evolve, our interpretation of our past changes. The faster we move on, the better we evolve, and the better our past becomes. We learn from it.
