Product reviews are way better than just product ratings

I'm working on implementing "new" product reviews feature for my work stream. However, stakeholders want to keep simple product ratings as well. So here are a few arguments to convince them with taking a much quality path.

    1. Detailed feedback

Reviews provide more detailed feedback compared to ratings alone. They allow users to express their experiences, opinions, and specific reasons behind their ratings, offering valuable insights for potential buyers.

    2. Contextual information

Reviews provide context for the ratings by explaining why a user gave a particular rating. This additional information helps readers understand the strengths, weaknesses, and nuances of a product beyond a simple numerical score.

    3. Specificity

Reviews often address specific features, performance aspects, or use cases of a product. This level of detail can assist potential buyers in assessing whether the product aligns with their unique needs and preferences.

    4. Personal experiences

Reviews often include personal anecdotes and stories about using the product. This firsthand experience provides a relatable perspective and allows potential buyers to gauge how the product might fit into their own lives.

    5. User demographics

Reviews can include information about the reviewer's demographic, such as age, occupation, or lifestyle. This demographic context helps potential buyers determine if the product is suitable for individuals similar to themselves.

    6. Pros and cons

Reviews typically discuss both the positive and negative aspects of a product. This balanced evaluation enables potential buyers to weigh the advantages and disadvantages before making a purchase decision.

    7. Validation of ratings

Reviews can provide validation or clarification for ratings. If a product has a high rating but few or no reviews, potential buyers may question the credibility of the rating. Reviews help confirm the accuracy and reliability of the overall rating.

    8. Addressing specific concerns

Reviews allow users to address specific concerns or questions raised by potential buyers. By reading reviews, potential buyers can find answers to their queries, leading to a more informed decision-making process.

    9. Uncovering hidden features or issues

Reviews may uncover hidden features or issues that may not be apparent from the product description or specifications. This additional information can impact a buyer's perception of the product and help them make a more informed choice.

    10. Engaging community

Reviews foster an engaged community around a product, allowing users to share tips, recommendations, and troubleshooting advice. This sense of community can be valuable for users who want to connect with others and learn from their experiences.
