Puppy Pandemic Syndrome

1. Never leaving dogs alone at home
Dogs are not babies. They are not children. They need to be given confidence skills. Staying alone is one of them.
2. Giving dogs access to the entire house with no boundaries
3. Pee pads in the house
People are using pee pads in the house, then are perplexed as to why their dog doesn't learn to relieve themselves outside only.
4. No crate training protocol
5. Believing socialization is letting your dog go out of control when meeting a new dog because he's just "saying hi"
6. Limited physical exercise
Postage stamp sized backyards as a place for dog exercise doesn't get it. Actually it could if you were to encourage engagement that involve movement. The mistake is in thinking letting your dog out for a bit is exercise when they really go pee, and come back and sit at the door to come back in.
7. Buying leashes, collars and pretty outfits in place of actually do a walk every day
8. Out of control socialization with people
Your dog greets people by jumping, barking, and just cannot calm down. You make the excuse, my dog's just soooo excited to see you, because it's too embarrassing to say, "I'm sorry my dog just wildly out of control and I don't know what to do about it."
9. Telling your dog "it's okay" at any moment of uncertainty instead of demonstrating what to do
10. Avoiding clear direction in moments of un-certainty
"It's okay" as a statement with dogs doesn't give any direction in what to do, especially in time of uncertainty . Sit is clear. "Park it" a clear action to to do.
Pandemic puppies are unclear because the wander around an amazing house with no clear direction. No impulse control.
They don't need an amazing house to make them happy.
They need clear direction.
