With a southern US family background and a culture of oral tradition, I think that I may have an unfair advantage BUT I do love this list idea and hope that some of my answers, of famous people's quotes that I remember family stating, are interesting / helpful for others....
1. Abraham Lincoln said

This was one of my paternal grandfather's favorite sayings that he restate to all the grandkids as left the house after rising everyday at dawn, got dressed and woke us up before leaving for a full day of work 6 days a week.

"Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, while small minds discuss people." when hearing that someone was talking down to or poorly about our family -- my maternal grandmother liked to quote her favorite s-hero.
4. My uncle's version of a Tennessee Williams quote that said
