Reasons people may struggle to build or maintain friendships
Preview
1. They talk about themselves too much
2. They expect the person to make the first move (and the person may expect the same from them)
3. Lack of quantity
They don't meet enough people.
4. They don't ask follow-up questions
5. They think they're somehow too weird and forget that they can find the same kind of weird people
You have a weird, niche interest? Perfect, that's a great way to find like-minded people.
6. They think they're not interesting enough (and they may be right)
Some people ARE boring. But if they're not interesting, they can be INTERESTED and that will make them likable.
If you're uninteresting AND uninterested, then there's probably not much you can do.
7. They expect friends to just come into their lives without having to be proactive about it
8. They don't have any hobbies
9. They're negative
10. They prioritize other things that feel more important in the moment, forgetting that friendship is THE most important thing to foster for the long-term
And they forget about the consequences of not developing friendships: basically, unhappiness.
