Simple, Inexpensive Ideas to Make a City or Town More Enjoyable To Live In
I live in Berlin, originally Indonesian, loves to travel.
1. Walking space
European cities in general have no issues with this. Jakarta does, but they closed down some main streets on Sunday to be a car free day. On those days the people seems to come alive and enjoying the open, car-less space to walk, run, bike, enjoy some street musicians.
2. Green Space and Parks
Plant more trees, convert an old unused part to be a park.
3. Reliable and Safe Public Transport
There is so much freedom when knowing you can get anywhere in the city with the public transport system. It doesn't even have to be free, just has to be affordable for the citizens.
4. Pedestrian Only Centers
Makes so much difference to be able to sit out in the cafe without inhaling car fumes.
5. Murals
Converting ugly corners to a cool spot.
6. Providing Benches
For people to sit and hangout and actually enjoy the city they live.
7. Bike Lanes
Honestly I don't bike, but it would be so much safer for everyone when there is a proper bike lane.
