Staycation Round-Up
Was "off" from work since Christmas Eve. Had to do some work tasks remotely since I'm the "only" one that can do them. But kinda productive while also being relaxing - kind of how I see retirement being, should I be able to get there.
1. Sleep
At least six hours per night, sometimes seven plus. Didn't make eight, but was in the "good" range per FitBit for all except awake time.
2. House Things - Furnace Cleaning
Scheduled from early November, but while usually we get older technicians (one was 80+), this time we got a young man (early 20's) who made the good choice of working in the trades, by design.
3. House Things - Dryer Cleaning
Had a technician out (older...) to pull apart and clean the unit where we couldn't get the dryer lint out. Immediate improvement in drying results. Wife is off my ass about this.
4. Did Some - Basement Declutter
Bought some large bins, sorted out things by person. Threw out a large trash bag worth of junk and a couple other things. Progress... slow but progress.
5. Didn't Do - Electric Football
I have an old board and teams I bought during the COVID lockdowns. Started then playing solitare games, but since it is in the (cold, unfinished) basement, I've left it alone. Either I need to do this "me" thing, or put it away and find some other "me" hobby.
6. Didn't Do - Exercise
Some stretching, some body weight exercises, but not regularly. This has to be a priority and I just seem to find other things to do.
7. Starting More Substack Posting
Used AI to help set up a routine for posting essays and notes. Not quite sure where I want to go with this, but like it better than social media. RayInNJ there, too.
8. Church Work - Fiscal Year End
Realized church board meeting is next Thursday. That left me with this weekend and through Wednesday to get the December financials and year end reporting done. Going to be a busy week, but set myself up to be able to get things done this week.
9. Did Do - Replace Cable Modem / WiFi Router
Friday was about six hours of trying to fix the crash and burning internet access. AFter about 4 hours, got the Optimum tech to admit we needed a new router. After a quick run out to the (new location) Optimum store and about 30 minutes of set up, was back in business. Realized that the cable modem was about 12 years old -should have swapped it out long ago.
10. Re-Jiggering My Priorities
Pushing to do more rewarding things (writing - like Substack), automating some things with AI (letting it read and curate one of my e-mail accounts by forwarding it to a Gmail account) and using AI to help me improve my decision making and creativity.
11. Conclusion -
Don't want to go back to work... but have bills to pay. This time off makes me think about changing my work schedule to see if I can start from home, drive in after rush hour, and leave a bit later. Will give it some thought. But, overall, can't wait for the next week +off ;)
